We are a family of four that is homeless. We currently reside in a storage shack on private land with no bathroom, no running water, no kitchen, faulty electric, and are confined to one room. My husband is disabled and unable to work. He receives S.S.I. which is $735 a month and that is what the four of us are trying to live off of. I was recently put off from work due to health issues. I was working at a turkey farm and had part of my lung collapse due to the unhealthy conditions I was working in. I have been steadily trying to obtain work but in a small town there comes an abundance of issues. I am trying to do right and provide for my family however in today's day and age it clearly doesn't matter. We have gone to every homeless assistance team we can just to be shunned away. We have tried going through realtors, private landlords all to be turned down due to credit. Section 8 has all denied us housing as well. It's quite discouraging that drug felons, sex offenders, violent offenders, illegal immigrants, and lazy people can get housing, welfare, and other government assistance and people like us whom are trying to do right and work for ours are constantly turned down. Our situation is no way for kids to live but it seems as no one cares about anyone anymore. Unfortunately our friends and family are in no position to help. We hate having to put our business out here like this and hate that we have to ask for help like this but we honestly don't know where else to turn. We have even gone as far as contacting the Virginia governor and both senators and have gotten absolutely no where. We know there is someone in this world that can help and is willing to help we just have to find them. We are not asking for millions of dollars just some help with possible first months rent and security deposit. We just need a break. If you can help than please do and if not than all we ask is for you to pass our cry for help on to the next person. In a world of negativity we have to stay positive and our kids help us do that. Through all our struggles our kids are still honor roll students. Their positivity and resilience keeps us going. Our oldest is high functioning autistic, bipolar, A.D.H.D. and is still positive that we will be back on our feet in no time.Through all our denials for all the rental properties we have gotten quite discouraged. As of right now we are truly drowning and no one wants to throw out a life preserver. No we are not asking for someone to buy us a house and we are not looking to purchase a mansion, just something small with running water, a bathroom, a kitchen, and hopefully a 3 bedroom so our oldest can have his own space that he needs. Unfortunately we live in an area where resources are scarce and its full of people whom only care abput theirselves so I'm reaching out to everyone beyond our little town for help. Please we need help!! There's got to be someone somewhere whom can help, whether little or big everything counts. Average rent in our area is $800-$1000 a month for just a two bedroom house. We have sold all items we can including beds, tv's, furniture, electronics, and collectables passed down from our families. So the total we are asking for includes beds and other necessities we will need. We own a beat up four door sedan that stands in as a shelter during hot and cold months.
