A Service Dog for Ayla
Service dogs are often the best example of the phrase "man's best friend." Unfortunately, because of the high cost, many people with disabilities must suffer alone, without the beneficial aid of a furry friend.
The cost of buying a pre-trained service dog is a stunning amount of $15,000 to $50,000, depending on breed, type of training, length of training, veterinary costs, adoption fees, and dietary needs.
Most people know that basic obedience can be an important fundamental, but service dogs must go through rigorous additional training to be able to complete disability-specific tasks. However, if you already have a dog which may be able to be trained for your needs, this can cut down costs significantly. Training expenses will then depend on your own capabilities, and how much assistance you'll need from a certified dog trainer.
Thanks to years of 9 years 4-H standard training, I have the know how and capability. Now, all I'm missing is the dog.
I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression. It is a daily struggle for me to accomplish simple activities, such as getting out of bed in the morning, making food to eat, getting dressed, or taking medication. A psychiatric service dog will help me complete these tasks, along with providing security and independence.
