Hoping to not be homeless
Hi. My name is Merle. I'm an old single mom! Lol My daughter and I are both on Disability. I don't know if she'd want me to mention her name or not, so I won't. A few months ago I had to sell my 2005 Dodge Neon for junk, cause I couldn't afford $5,000 for a rebuilt engine! I'd like to start doing Uber part time, but I need a car. My finances are so messed up right now due to a fiasco caused by my bank and Social Security. I had fraud perpetrated on my checking account so I had to get a new account. I did that and notified Social Security of new info. It ended up they got the info wrong, so for 2 months I didn't get my SSI check. I'm on Social Security (SSI made me take early retirement at 62!) also, but I'm on a fixed income of $986 a month total. I kept calling to get the bank account info corrected, but I ended up having to go to Social Security to tell them face to face about my dilemma! It was fixed although it took about 5 days to show up in my account. In the mean time my bank had been charging me overdraft fees, because I had late charges and fees from different creditors due to not being able to pay them yet, which exceeded my monthly budget. I finally had to change banks because of the vicious cycle I found myself in. One month they charged me over $400 in overdraft fees! My credit score was affected very badly, and I can't get a loan for anything now. On top of this fiasco, I have been notified that my lease will not be renewed, because they decided not to accept Section 8 anymore and they are also raising the rent by $300! So with very short notice I have to come up with a deposit and rent to move, not to mention a Uhaul to move our belongings. I applied to an apartment accepting Section 8 recently and because I have bad credit now, they said I'd have to pay a full month rent as a deposit. I can't afford that. If I had been given ample notice, I would have been able to save up for it. I also lost $100 application fee! I called some charitable organizations and was told they had no funds or couldn't help me cause I was on Section 8! So we are facing being homeless without a vehicle now! We will probably lose most of our belongings cause I can't afford to have them moved and I won't get my $700 deposit back either if I have to leave a bunch of stuff in the apartment! I am at my wits end. If I can get a hand up out of this nightmare, I will gladly pay it forward anyway I can, even if it's only small donations at a time. I'm willing to pay on a loan, but I can't get one, so that is why I am here asking for your kind assistance. Thank you.
