Hungry for Recovery
Fellow Peers,
At 34 years old, I have arrived at a deeply vulnerable moment in my life. After spending 15 years refusing to listen to those who wanted to help me—and turning away from the love of my family—I hit my lowest point. In late August of 2025, I found myself in the Elmwood Correctional Facility. Night after night, those broken connections were all I could think about.
Today, I am just shy of a full 365 days clean. I have never felt more hungry for life.
But this hunger I feel now is in my soul. Through working the 12 Steps, attending NA meetings, going to therapy, and making amends with the people I love, I am doing the work. Yet, I know there is a bigger path meant for me. I am standing at a fork in the road, trying to figure out my next right step. While I work my program and try to be of service, I still find myself falling short of where I need to be.
I am seeking more than just financial support; I am looking for guidance to helbp me move in the direction my heart is pulling me. My ultimate dream is to become a Substance Abuse Counselor so I can give back and be a part of the very system that is helping me rebuild my life.
To get there, I am working hard to change my current living situation so I can fully focus on my recovery and this new path. I am humbly asking my community for help with a few specific steps:
Housing Assistance: I am desperately saving to move, but I need help covering 3 months of rent and a deposit while I wait for a program to finalize my rental assistance paperwork.
Employment Opportunities: I am actively seeking full-time or part-time work (including weekends). I have over 5 years of experience in the hospitality industry, spanning both classic and fine dining.
Recovery is a 24/7 job with no days off. At times, it feels like my hardest efforts aren't enough to reach the goals I've set. I am asking for your help and guidance today so that very soon, I can be in a position to help others, too.
Anything helps. Thank you for believing in my journey and taking the time to read this.
I will need to be moving from my current living situation ASAP, I'm currently working with my program coordinator to help me enroll in some kind of rental assistance but I still need help with the first month and deposit .
Anything is appreciated God Bless you all .
