Hurricane Harvey-Darden Family
My sister Tanya moved to Houston from NJ for a better life for her 3 children, now ages 8, 14, and 15, as a single parent. Two days before Harvey hit I escorted my nieces and nephew back to Houston from spending the summer with my mom in New Jersey. If only we knew then that it would have been safer for them to stay. My sister's first floor apartment was televised on the news near the Braes Bayou. Prior to the storm someone attempted to break into my sister's home damaging the front door & bedroom window; thankfully they're lovable Sharpei Rocky scared the offender off. My sister is currently staying at a friend's one-bedroom apartment with her three children and Rocky. Her apartment is currently uninhabitable and the complex management office has not offered to make any repairs nor did they offer any preparations, directions, or sand for the doorways prior to the storm. They also sent an email advising it was to each tenant's discretion to provide their own bags of sand. The day they began to release the reservoirs my sister went back to work taking all 3 of the kids with her. I want to assist my sister in easing the burden of the storm's aftermath and hopefully find a safer place to live. The funds will be used for food, daily essentials, and current bills.
