I'll Be Home For Xmas
My name is Devin. I have a beautiful son named Auron. Due to some extraordinary circumstances, last year in August, I had to leave him with his mother.
His mother and I are no longer together, and I was forced to move to the other side of the country due to the short notice and I was unable to find a new place to live in the amount of time I had. It was move or become homeless. I have been stuck ever since, and my son is sick. He is Autistic, Epileptic, and has a rare genetics disease called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.
TSC causes a lot benign tumors to grow inside of his body, which requires a lot of monitoring. He had to have brain surgery a few years back because of one such tumor. He takes a lot of different medicines to fight the tumors and because of this, he has a weakened immune system. So he gets sick quite often, and has a lot of ER visits and the medicines have been very costly.
The government decided that he isn't sick or disabled enough to be on social security, and has kicked him off. We have tried fighting that decision, with no success. He needs his medicine, because it is life saving meds for not only the tumors, but for the seizures, and could die without them, so we have no choice but to pay.
I am struggling to make ends meet. Between sending money for his home necessities, like diapers, clothes, and school lunches, and the costs of his medicine, I am having a very hard time saving money up to afford the move back to my baby boy.
I miss him so much, and when he is sick, and has to go to the ER and gets scared, it breaks my heart cause I can't be there for him. I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas last year, and without help, I am undoubtedly going to miss them again this year.
I work a full time job, and even pick up extra work outside of that job to try and save up the necessary funds to make the move. I've even gone so far as to sell most of my belonging. I don't even own a bed anymore. I hate asking for help, because it makes me feel like I've failed. But I am desperate at this point. My son has been getting sick a lot more than usual lately and he needs me. And I need him, and I just don't know what else I can do at this point.
My goal here is to at least get home by Christmas, and anything anyone can spare would mean the world to me.
