The following is part of a public statement posted by Sherrie Fullam (Dziewior), the mother of Rose Alcorn, who tragically passed away recently in Hershey, PA.

I've started this fundraiser to provide her family with the dignity of being able to have her ashes disposed of in a loving way, to pay for final expenses, and to assist them where needed. They are very thankful for anything you can give:

 “My daughter Rose was brought into this world 29 years ago as Keith. But she left this world on Saturday, July 24, 2021, as Rose.

 Even at a young age, we knew she was unique. To know Rose, was to love Rose. Doctor after doctor, and after many tests, she was finally diagnosed with Asperger's (it is now part of a broader category called autism spectrum disorder).

 In many ways, my daughter was a tortured soul. She had repeated mental inpatient admissions since the 8th grade and up to 15 days prior to her tragic death. As is often the case with those who are mentally ill, there were no recent signs of trouble. We do not know what prompted her decision--and we may never know. But what we do know, is that at 1:30 pm, she posted a message on Facebook saying goodbye.

 One of her greatest struggles was being transgender. People who knew her, accepted her. But as so often happens with transgenders, some did not—and loudly so. In my heart of hearts, I feel strongly that this was what pushed her to her decision.

 I'm sharing this to let all know that she loved her neighbors and her community. The Beatles song “All we need is love” comes to mind. But despite the love she gave and was given, we will struggle to understand this terrible tragedy.

 The journey of love and acceptance, as her mother, came easily. But we also know that mental illness is often misunderstood. And being diagnosed as transgender is even more so. I'm dealing with this the best way I can. And I'm telling this story as an honor to my first born, who was an active member of her community. And was loved by many. This is a reminder to us all that we need love and acceptance for all.
