In Memory of Samuel Owen

On Tuesday, November 8, Samuel Owen Bunn unexpectedly passed away. I, his Aunt am setting this up because we are asking for donations to help his parents with the medical expenses. We have decided to make this alongside the GoFundMe that was created so that family can receive donations more directly. The funeral expenses have been covered by a generous donation.

Sam was always happy, silly, caring and generous. He was always finding a way to make you laugh or smile. He loved learning card tricks and magic tricks. He was a Sophomore at Kingwood High School and participated in Football as well. Sam was such a smart, extraordinary 15 year old who was taken way too soon. He will forever be missed and never forgotten.

We are all heartbroken by this tragedy and below is a summary of what happened in his mother's words. Whatever you can donate would be appreciated and will help during this difficult time. We have attached a few ways of donating.

“We brought Sam in on Sunday for extreme pain in his right thigh. It was completely tight like a constant Charlie horse. He was in so much pain. Urgent care sent us straight to kingwood hospital er. They ran a bunch of tests. Blood work showed very high lactaid levels and high kidney and liver levels. They decided to send us to Texas Children's Hospital. Sam's thigh was severely swelling at this point. Once arriving there Tx Children's ran even more tests, X-rays, CT scans. The scans and tests showed Sam had an abscess between two muscles in his thigh. His health rapidly decreased as the infection rapidly increased. He was admitted to the icu. Within a hour or less of being in icu things went south REALLY FAST and Sam was intubated and then had to have emergency surgery as the antibiotics they had him on were not helping like they should have. Sam was placed on ECMO (heart and lung bypass machine) and they cut open sam's thigh to relieve the pressure and to get a good look at the infection. As the day went on the infection got worse. The choice came to amputating his leg or no survival so we decided to amputate and give him some kind of chance to survive no matter how small. He was ok after that surgery Monday night but Tuesday morning was not doing well and the infection was still spreading. They decided to take him in again for two more surgeries and during those surgeries found an immense amount of dead muscle/tissue. Too much to be able to do anything about. So the decision was made to not let him suffer anymore."

Tragically, Sam took his last breath at 4:37pm, Tuesday November 8th 2022.

Please continue to pray for his parents; Rick,Tara &Trevor, siblings & family as we navigate and grieve through this horrific time.
