In need of a helping hand
Hello, let me start by saying, I'm usually not one to ask for a helping hand, I am the one that gives the helping hand, however, I really need one now, because I'm sinking faster than I can swim at the moment.
Just a quick backstory, I am a survivor of domestic violence that went on for 10 years (late 80's-early 90's), and separate from that situation, also a Widow from losing my husband of 13.5 years (Nov 2001-April 2015), to Lung Cancer & Inoperable Brain Tumors.
That being said, all of that did take a toll on me, mentally & physically over the years, but I was able to work through it finally, come out of my Deep Depression, and come up from the bottom, but it was not easy.
In May 2021, I finally got back on my own 2 feet, got an apartment, bought a Car on my own, got back to work & started rebuilding my life from scratch. It made me so proud of myself & I was finally back on the right track. Until May 2022 came along.
May 2022 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and a few months later, in July 2022, I was diagnosed with Ischemic Heart Disease. Over 2022, I went through my Breast Cancer, had a Lumpectomy, and did all of my Radiation Treatments after that, which took me through the holidays and into 2023. I finally finished treatments, and went back to work doing Rideshare Driving, however, I cannot handle all of the hours of being in the Car anymore, as I get fatigued, & it takes all the energy that I have to even work for a couple of hours. To add to the list, this year in January, I was diagnosed with Dysphagia. With of all of this, I have fallen behind in my bills, I just barely got my Car back from the Repo Man, and doing all I can to keep up, but when creditors want their money, and they tell me that there's nothing they can do for assistance, because of my illnesses, it's very distressing. Out of all of my Creditors, only 15% give or take, actually did defer a couple of payments for me, however, that did not last long, and I'm still at square 1 so to speak. I have been looking for WFH jobs, and I do have a couple of bites, but until I "sign on the dotted line", a couple of bites doesn't stop my bills from coming.
If not for my Mother, some family, a close friend, and an understanding Apartment Manager, I would've already lost my Apartment, Car and everything I have built up for myself. That assistance can only last so long though, and has about run its course, as of course, none of us have a money tree in our backyard, lol. I am on SSI at the moment, but that doesn't even cover my rent completely. If you can find it in your Heart to help me in this recovery, it would be very much appreciated! Even if it's just a dollar, I would be very grateful for that as well. Every little bit counts and helps. If you are on Facebook and want to find me, send me a DM with your address, if you like, and I would be MORE than happy to send you a personal "Thank You" note out.
If you have read this to the end, thank you, and that is appreciated as well!
Thank you again, All the best to you, Stephanie D. Kerns, Humble, TX 77346
SIDENOTE: I have looked for assistance for utilities and things as well, but so far I have never "qualified" for their programs, so I'm at a loss there too. If you are curious about how the money would be dispersed; half is going to my vehicle so that I don't have to worry about the repo man anymore, and the other half to my rent, utilities, phone. I have given up all my credit card companies and am focusing on my "basic needs". I will take care of the rest at a later date down the road.
