In early November, Jason (shown above in a pre-accident photo) suffered a massive brain trauma when he was struck by a New Jersey Transit bus.  Jason had made it three-quarters of the way through a marked pedestrian crosswalk  when the bus hit him. The bus driver acknowledged that he was looking the other way; he did not see Jason or slow down prior to the impact.  Despite video evidence that Jason was in the "right" and the bus driver was in the "wrong," New Jersey Transit is not paying for Jason's medical bills or assisting with his recovery.  

Jason spent two months in a hospital and rehabilitation center.  While he suffered some rib and shoulder injuries, his most significant injury was massive trauma to his brain.  After waking from his coma, Jason had to relearn basic physical skills: how to walk, climb stairs, shower, and dress.  Six months post-accident, Jason continues to work on improving his speaking and reading.  He is working to regain mobility in his right shoulder and to regain his balance and endurance. Mentally, Jason struggles with sequential thought processes; he has difficulty remembering how to perform tasks and difficulty following directions.  While he can be left by himself for brief periods of time, he requires an adult family member or care-taker for day-to-day supervision.

The Gillespies are asking for help supporting Jason's continued care.  In particular, they are seeking donations to help with the following:

• Hiring a part-time caretaker to be with Jason so that his wife can work. 
• Paying for continued therapy (cognitive and speech) sessions that are not covered by insurance.
  
• Assisting with medical payments from bills that are unpaid by insurance.
