Joe's New Leg
Everybody who knows Joe knows what a generous, big-hearted guy he is. Whether it’s working 12+ hour days at the Rockabilly Bash, supporting fellow builders and organizing meetups in the hot rod community, or quietly stepping up for anyone who needs a hand, Joe has always been the first to give. He’s a familiar face and a well-loved one. Stubborn as hell, full of life, and always ready with a smile and a hug.
22 years ago, Joe lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. For the past 15 years, he’s been making do with an ill-fitting prosthetic that has caused him daily pain and frustration. (His current prosthetic is so outdated his new prostatist said that it was an "antique" and they don't even make parts for it anymore... Just like Joe🤣) All kidding aside, it rubs so badly it creates painful sores, sometimes leaving him with no choice but to rely on his wheelchair for MONTHS at a time just to heal. Despite this, Joe keeps showing up to help wherever he can. Now, after a long wait, Joe has finally been approved for a new prosthetic that will fit properly and bring him real comfort and mobility. This is a game changer for him, but the $3700 copay is more than he and Lisa can handle on their own.
Lisa, Joe’s wonderful partner, is no stranger to helping others. She runs her own nonprofit that sponsors animals and supports animal welfare. She is retired but has still been working long hours doing food delivery shifts, trying to save up for the copay while still working hard for the people and animals in her community. Yet when it came time for them to ask for help, it took a lot of convincing. Both of them are incredibly proud and independent. They planned to tackle this themselves. But after seeing Joe struggle in pain, we finally convinced them that it’s okay to let the community give back.
Joe didn’t want to ask. That stubborn pride is part of what makes him who he is. But now it’s our turn. If Joe and Lisa have ever helped you, made you laugh at a show, lent a hand on a build, or simply been the kind of people who make you feel seen and welcomed, this is our chance to show up for them. Any amount helps. Whether it’s $5, $20, or simply sharing this with someone who knows Joe, every bit brings him closer to living without constant pain.
Thank you for being part of Joe’s road to recovery. Let’s give him the comfort and mobility he deserves, and give Lisa some peace of mind knowing that they don't have to do this on their own!
100% of the funds raised will be paid directly to Joe and Lisa through Freefunder.
