John Sorensen Memorial
Brother John Sorensen passed on February 16, 2023. Our goal is to raise funds for his wife Teri to help cover incurred expenses.
John was a friend and brother to many over the course of his life, and career in the IBEW which spanned over 54 years as an active Brother. He started his Apprenticeship in Local 447, El Centro where he became an Inside Journeyman Wireman and worked on many projects, for many contractors in the area. He also served as Chairman of the Executive Board, and a couple terms as President for Local 447 during his time there. In 1980 Local 447 was amalgamated into IBEW Local 569, San Diego where he again served his Union helping to man work in the jurisdiction while working with his tools. He remained an active Brother holding other positions including Instructor for the JATC, as a Trustee on the Apprenticeship committee, and eventually as a Business Agent in the Imperial Valley Area to which he was passionate about.
Upon his retirement from IBEW Local 569, he and his wife moved to Arizona and resided in the White Mountains area. John, not being one to sit around and wait soon found himself another Local to help. He started his second tour of duty to the IBEW in 2005 when he was appointed as Organizer for IBEW Local 518, Globe Arizona where he served under 3 different Business Managers over the span of 18 years. There he also volunteered as a trustee on the Apprenticeship Committee, and on the North Eastern Arizona @ Work Force as a labor trustee.
Anybody who knew John, knew this brother was a tough soul, he was not afraid to fight for the rights of workers, and had absolutely no quit in him. We are all stronger Brothers and Sisters for having known him. He was one you would want in your corner, and there was never any doubt that he was. He was an open book when it came to the History of the IBEW, and a wealth of information. I am sure as soon as he crossed over into those pearly gates, he started handing out cards. John will truly be missed by many and remembered not only as a great Brother, Agent, Organizer, Devoted Family Man, but also and most importantly a Great Friend to all!
All funds raised will go to his loving Wife Teri Sorensen. Please donate and share if able.
Thank You
