JunkSion X Labs
JunkSion, a backyard maker space in Kingston, Jamaica, teamed up with liked-minded individuals to form the first FabLab in Jamaica under the name Junksion X Labs. With the goal of stimulating economic growth and sustainable socio-economic development, XLabs focuses on using ITs (information technologies) to enable problem solving, creativity and innovation in tech entrepreneurship.
JunkSion X Labs is a digital fabrication space where anyone (artist, designer, engineer, developer, tinkerer, student), independent of his/her education level, can come to experiment, learn and create all kinds of objects (artistic or design object, interactive object, technical object, prototype).
We provide the tools to create, the space to fabricate and mentors and resources to facilitate, allowing for ideas to be developed to solve problems that should not wait.
Jamaica has struggled to create sustainable and scalable indigenous technological innovations that are necessary to gain a secure foothold in the emerging digital economy and meaningfully confront the perennial challenges we face in critical areas such as agriculture, healthcare and education, and the manufacturing and service industries, not to mention facilitating the effectiveness of the delivery of government services.
How Can You Help?
XLabs needs to be equipped with various tools to aid in product development. In order to assist and support these creators and innovators XLabs is asking for your assistance in the purchase of the additional resources required such as 3D printers, vinyl cutters and CNC milling machines.
Your assistance in the purchase of equipment will go beyond creating access to the right resources in the field of science and technology; it also allows for the participants to be free to create with the objective of using imagination and innovation to solve real life problems. The future of our youth depends on programs such as these.
