Although Hilary is proud to have never asked for a handout from anyone before in her life, now she must swallow her pride.

Hilary’s beloved son, Kris’ life was unjustly turned upside down by a wrongful accusation. We are raising money to fund his legal defense and to prove his innocence. Kris is a 40-year-old Latino/American autistic musician who has spent his life entertaining others throughout the world. He lives simply, existing on disability income and a housing voucher. He is a gentle giant who mostly stays home in Oregon and creates in his studio when not touring. Now he has been unjustly charged with a crime he did not commit by a long-time beloved friend who has totally betrayed his trust in them in an effort to hide their own deception.

Hilary is retired, living on California’s far northern coast on a modest fixed social security retirement income. She works as a volunteer advocate for disabled kids whose rights are being violated by the schools, and as an affordable housing advocate, preventing billionaires from gouging the poor living in mobile home parks (like the one she lives in). She has spent the entirety of her savings from the sale of her Montessori school ($10,000) on bail and retaining a top attorney. Pretrial begins September 29th, and who knows how long it will last? 

We need your help to afford a defense attorney that will give Kris the fighting chance he deserves. Without these funds an innocent person could be wrongfully convicted. Lack of legal fees will be a barrier to justice in this case. The costs of a skilled attorney, investigators, expert testimony and other related expenses add up quickly. Public defenders are not sufficient for this complex case. Kris is facing a crime with a mandatory minimum sentence of 8 years! After just one week in jail before bail, the poor guy decompensated so badly from the daily trauma that his fragile mental health is seriously at risk.
