The kidney foundation is a foundation where we help families who are getting a kidney transplant or are in recovery after their transplant. I worked in Dialysis for 13 years with patients who in kidney failure. I have seen many patients who get on the transplant list and have waited for years and have to turn down the kidney because they do not have the funds they need to travel to the hospital where the transplant would take place. The patients who do accept the kidney and make arrangements to go to the hospital have to leave their homes and families for up to 6 weeks. I am in Texas and most patients have to travel 6-10 hours away for this procedure. They only get maybe a day notice and then they leave. Once they receive their kidney they have to pay for their own room and board, they have to pay for their own meals, transportation and medications. I can imagine how stressful and expensive this can be The Kidney Foundation would help with these expenses.
