Thank you to all our friends and family who have reached out for more information about the car accident that Larry was involved in on Saturday, April 2.
Larry, who we will refer to as Dad in our entries, is miraculously alive after veering off of a road going airborne for 111 feet, rolling the car twice and landing upright.
He was near Emporia Kansas on County Road 50 at the time. On his way home from Arizona to Minnesota. No other vehicles were involved in the crash which occurred in the afternoon sometime between 3 o'clock and 4:00 PM.
Injuries sustained in the crash include quite a bit of damage to the left ear, this is since been sutured. Contusions on the head including one on the back of the head that required staples and the second near the hairline on the front right that required sutures. He has bumps and bruises everywhere and small cuts ~ from the enormous amount of glass shattering, is what we're thinking.
He also has some tears of skin and severe abrasions and contusions on his left arm. Four fractured ribs, two small fractures in his pelvic bone, a fractured T12 vertebrae, and they are keeping him in a support neck collar.
His lungs filled with fluid on the left side so they have inserted a tube to allow him to release the fluid and blood around this area and out of the lungs.
After only three days he has been moved out of the intensive care unit and into an intermediate care unit.
He is in good spirits and although he can't talk for extended periods of time he is speaking to us he knows where he is what happened and is involved in his care and goals for getting back to Minnesota to continue his rehabilitation.
He would love to be transported to Minnesota to continue his care and rehabilitation as soon as possible. The care team including the physical therapist and occupational therapist, social workers, and staff here are in support of this goal as well.
Dad himself would prefer to just be placed in a helicopter and flown to Minnesota– ha ha ! When we reminded him how many miles it was his only question was “how many dollars is that?”
We are so incredibly grateful that he had his Bible with him in the car his battalion of Angels with him and continuing to care for him.
