Sahil is a 16 or 17 year old boy (working on getting his exact age) who is a cousin of my friend, Sadaqat Sadiq (returned missionary who served in India and lives in Lahore). So, Sahil was riding his motorcycle on Easter Morning this year, in Lahore, Pakistan where he lives, when he had an accident and was run over by a truck. He had such severe leg injuries, that it became necessary to amputate both legs well above the knees. 

I heard about the accident at the time as Sadaqat keeps in frequent contact with me. A few months later I asked about Sahil and was told that he just lays in bed every day, all day because his family is poor and cannot afford a wheelchair. I determined to buy him a wheelchair for Christmas, but was told that Sahil doesn't want a wheelchair.

He wants Legs. 

According to his physician and in consultation the manufacturer, this would cost him 250,000 Rupees. With an exchange rate of 139.85 Rupees to 1 USD, this amounts to $1,788. This is relatively inexpensive to us, but is prohibitively expensive to Sahil and his family. His father ears the equivalent of about $60 a month as and office “peon” (Sadaqat's words, not mine), and his older brother makes about $107 a month in a clothing factory. Thus, the cost of Sahil's prosthetic legs is about a year's salary for his entire household. 

I will also donate as much as I can to this, but I am begging my brothers and sisters out there to have compassion and donate what you can toward Sahil's legs. The funds raised from this campaign will go entirely to Sahil, and if we happen to get more than our target of $1800, I will send that money along too as a little extra Christmas gift
