Partners in Animal Care & Compassion (PACC) received a call for help with rehoming Taro, an über adorable 1 yr old Standard Poodle, plagued with one health issue after another despite his young age. As his human described it, she needed to rehome Taro, because "someone more wealthy can take better care of him". Both PACC and Taro beg to differ. Everytime the word "re-home" came up, Taro's human broke into tears. 

We know a human who loves their dog when we see one, and upon meeting the two of them, Taro was velcroed to her side. These two belong together and we aren't about to let money get in the way.

Background

Taro's human is a new pet owner who had her heart set on a Standard Poodle. Unaware of the plight of dogs in shelters, she bought Taro from Lake Sai Poodle in Tennessee. Shortly after Taro arrived in CA he met with one health condition after another. Initially manageable conditions (suspected upper respiratory tract infection, followed by Giardia), Taro's problems rapidly bloomed into the far more serious and expensive conditions of a fungal skin infection and Angular Limb Deformity appearing first in one leg, and then the other. Taro's human managed to piece together funds for the first $9K surgery. Imagine her horror when shortly after the first surgery, his second leg began to similarly "bend" - impairing his ability to walk.

Taro's human is on a limited income, supported by financial aid, going to school while working as she tries to get by in the exorbitantly priced SF Bay Area. She now regrets having purchased a dog from across the country rather than adopting locally, but simply put, you don't know what you don't know, and no one could have predicted this outcome. One thing is clear, she loves Taro deeply and she is very much his north star.

We are hoping to raise funds for his second surgery the estimate for which is the same as the first surgery - $9K (gulp). Given that the prognosis for Taro living a healthy and robust life once his legs are fixed is very good - we cannot see giving up on this guy - and we hope you feel the same.

PACC is able to contribute $2K for the 2nd surgery

Because of his human's extensive outreach efforts, Palo Alto Humane Society has generously committed an additional $2K

So we are $4K on our way to the needed $9K.

PACC has not done a Freefunder before so we have no idea what to expect, but if you can find it in your heart and wallet to donate to Taro's cause we would be grateful.
