Life after Death
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write.
My mom passed away unexpectedly, and everything in my world has changed. She wasn’t just my mother—she was my anchor, my emotional and financial support, and the person who helped me care for my 16-month-old. We were everything a family truly is together, and now that’s just…gone.
Many of you knew her and how selfless she was. If someone needed help, she gave it—whether it was time, work, love, a listening ear, or simply her presence. She was always helping family and friends any way she could. That’s just who she was.
I’m not the kind of person who typically asks for help. I’ve always tried to figure out life’s challenges on my own. I know we all have our own uphill journeys, roadblocks, and victories, so I’ve always tried to shoulder mine quietly and not place that weight on others.
But right now, I’m in a place where I truly can’t do this alone. Losing my mom meant losing not only her love, but also her income—and my own, as I had been caring for her full time. We took care of each other, always. But now…Without child care, I’m unable to return to work, and the financial stress on top of the grief is overwhelming.
If you’re able to offer support in any way—child care/child care options, financial help, or just reaching out with a kind word—it would mean more than I can express. I’m trying to take things one day, one breath at a time.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for showing up in whatever way you can. I’m holding onto hope, and the love of those around me, to get through this.
With love,
Davina Knops
