Liz's Legacy

In honour of our adventurous and compassionate friend Liz, we have created a fund to support women’s health and empowerment in Zambia—a place close to her heart.

The fund will provide micro-grants to female entrepreneurs and scholarships for under-resourced young women pursuing careers in maternal-child health, carrying forward Liz’s spirit of service, curiosity, and community.

******

In 1996, Liz joined the Peace Corps and set off for Zambia, where she helped disseminate vital health education messages in rural areas. Working primarily with women and children, Liz soon aided in her first delivery... an experience that would shape her future.

Decades later, Liz heard of a young widow in Zambia who was struggling and wanted to invest in chickens to support her family. Liz immediately Venmo’d her friend $50 to fund the woman’s business. That woman, living on a farm outside of Lusaka, is now known as the “egg lady” of her neighborhood. Her children are well nourished and excelling in school. Liz’s donation changed the trajectory of the family’s life.

  • A micro-grant of $50-100 can fund a dream and change the life of a female entrepreneur.
  • $400 can pay for a semester of nursing or midwifery school for an under-resourced young woman.
  • $2400 can provide a fully-funded scholarship for a complete nurse-midwife program.

Every donation, large or small, honors our dear friend Liz. Our goal is to fund five $100 micro-grants, and provide scholarships to train two nurse-midwives. If we exceed the goal, we will impact even more lives. Donors who provide email addresses may opt into receiving photos and updates on grant and scholarship recipients.

Thank you for honoring Liz's Legacy in this meaningful way.

Sincerely,

Michaele, Felicia, and Holly
