Tony's Fight to Breathe
Our family is asking for your support as my father-in-law,Tony, prepares for the fight of his life—a double lung transplant.
Tony has end-stage COPD and after years of battling this devastating disease, a double lung transplant is now his best chance at a longer, healthier life.
This journey is one filled with hope, but it also comes with tremendous challenges. We are incredibly grateful that his health insurance is expected to cover approximately 95% of the medical costs associated with his transplant and care. We want to be transparent about why we are fundraising.
Tony's transplant and follow-up care will take place at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. After he is discharged from the hospital, he will be required to return to the transplant center every day for approximately three months. During that time, he will also need a caregiver with him 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These frequent trips and the demand of recovery will create many expenses that insurance does not cover.
Donations will help ease the financial burden of:
- Travel to and from the transplant center
- Lodging during his evaluation, surgery, and recovery
- Meals while away from home
- Caregiver expenses so he has the support he needs throughout recovery
- Prescription medications and other out-of-pocket medical necessities
- Unexpected expenses that often come with a lung transplant journey
A double lung transplant is more than a surgery—it is the opportunity for more time with family, more memories to make, and the simple gift of breathing with ease again.
If you're able to donate, no amount is too small, and every contribution will make a meaningful difference. The money will be placed in its own account and allocated solely to transplant care needs once Tony gets the call from the team. If donating isn't possible, sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family is another incredible way to support us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your encouragement during this difficult time. Your love and support remind us that we are not walking this journey alone.
With gratitude,
The Hanlon Family
