#MarchMadness Mission Trip
Hello,
My name is Stephanie Lara. I am a PreK teacher who loves kids and is passionate about serving my community, the church, and the people around me. I am actively involved at my local church, and have also been doing mission trips for the last 5 years. We, with our team of 17 other people, are currently planning our next mission trip to an indigenous community of Huicholes in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. They are a low income group of 250-300 people, who live in the mountain area of Zapote de Picachos, have a very limited clean water supply, and just recently were able to have electricity for the first time in their homes. Their education facilities are not in the best conditions, which makes it challenging for both educators and students to succeed. We plan on visiting the Huichol community during the spring of 2019, for a week. We have several projects we want to implement, for example, installing basketball goals in an area close to all 3 schools, where the community spends most of their free time to socialize. Our team will teach a basketball camp for both boys and girls. Other plans include a VBS (vacation bible school) course with the children, a child abuse prevention play by our team, to help bring awareness and solutions about this to the families, and small bible studies for women and men to join in the afternoons. As you can imagine, all of this requires supplies and resources to be carried out.
We will need:
• 2 Basketball goals, basketballs, cones
• School supplies. (pencils, notebooks, crayons, scissors, glue, paper, etc. They have approximately 40 children in elementary, 25 in junior high, and 15 in high school)
• Hygiene items. (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, razors, etc.)
• Bibles and notebooks (VBS and small bible groups)
• Camping equipment (housing for the team)
If you would like to sponsor a portion of our trip, please go to the following link to donate. Thank you so much in advance for your generous contribution! You are being a part of this experience that will impact many people's lives.
