Maternity Ward for Sister Chat
“A Maternity Ward For Our Modern-Day Superwoman: Sister Chateya”
Hello friends!
My name is Phil Mlanda and for my birthday today, I would love nothing more than to assist a dear friend in bettering her
community.
I visited Sister Chateya in August 2018 in a rural area in Chivu, Zimbabwe. I was immediately impressed by her diligent work ethic and her tireless dedication to the wellbeing of her village. Though she operates under a very tight budget with very little funding or outside help, she is committed to keeping her practice meticulously clean and functional for the health and safety of all of her patients. She truly is a modern-day Superwoman.
Sister Chateya's ultimate goal is to reduce infant mortality rates in the village by creating a fully-furnished
maternity ward so that expecting mothers have a comfortable place to stay in the days prior to giving birth. She would like to make her rooms more functional and comfortable by giving her patients warm blankets, a stove for them to cook their meals, clean bed sheets for each bed, and more.
Sister Chateya is the backbone of her village. When someone has been bitten by a snake, she
is the anti-venom. When someone falls and breaks an arm, she is the splint…And when I faked an illness to get out of herding cattle, she called me out to my grandma! (Ha!) Still, I love and respect her, and she has promised me a crazy photo if I raise enough money for her maternity ward!
Here is a list of the necessary items that we are raising money for:
Blankets - $200
Bed Sheets - $100
Sugar Testing Machine - $50
Gas Stove and Cylinder - $150
Pots, Plates, Spoons and Cups - $60
4 Solar Lamps - $180
I will be covering all shipping costs, and you can rest assured knowing that your money will be
used to directly cover the necessary materials. I would greatly appreciate any amount that you
are able to donate, as every little bit brings us closer to our goal of a well-functioning maternity
ward for Sister Chateya's practice!
