McKinley Ave Cat Colony

Info about The McKinley Ave Cat Colony:

We currently have 20 cats in permanent residence. Some cats showed up and decided to stay, some were born here and some we took in because they needed a place. Occasionally, we'll have a guest cat that will take a break on their journey and get something to eat and drink before they continue on.

Our house is at the end of a long driveway off of McKinley. We have almost an acre with woods surrounding the backyard. The cats that go outside are safe from street traffic. There's plenty of room for them to roam inside and out. Some prefer to stay in the house, some prefer the attached heated garage and some prefer to stay outside. There's lots of places in the house and garage with soft blankets for them to lounge on. We have toys, tunnels and cat towers to keep them active. When it's nice weather, many of the cats enjoy being outside.

There's always dry food and water out for them in the house, the attached garage and outside. Twice a day we give them canned cat food. They also love getting treats and occasionally cat nip.

Except for the feral group, all the cats are spayed or neutered. We are working on a plan to get the feral group fixed.

We don't adopt any of the cats out because I don't want a situation where someone takes a cat and then, for whatever reason, they can't keep the cat and the cat then gets dumped somewhere or pawned off on someone else.

We've had a lot of support in the community through donations from the Amazon registry and items an individual has on hand that they no longer need, such as cat trees, fuzzy blankets, litter, cat food and toys.

I spend around $400-$500/month just on food and litter and the support we get from the registry and other donations helps immensely.

This fundraiser is for the veterinary and health related needs for the colony. Vet care is expensive and having this fund will enable us to ensure that the colony remains healthy.

We are so grateful for all the help we've received and continue to receive from our friends and neighbors in our community.
