Med Mission to the Dominican R

Do you take any medication for high blood pressure, blood sugar or respiratory problems? How about your parents? It's no big deal, right? 100 years ago, things like that would kill you. Or at least make you unable to work on the farm any longer and could plunge your whole family into poverty. What a lucky time to be alive and healthy.

In the Dominican Republic there are a lot of farming families. They live in small villages called campos and don't have access to clinics or pharmacies. There's no pre-natal/post-natal medical care. These are the places that I visit every six months with some fiends of mine. Our group is called "The Waves of Health." It was created by some doctors that were in the D.R. surfing and saw there were people who needed some basic healthcare to live longer, fuller lives. Not surgery. Not CT scans or MRIs or chemo. Not a NICU. Just the basics. The doctors got some medications donated and invited their friends along to run a pharmacy and triage area. I joined this group two years ago and immediately became one of the people who go on the trip every time--twice a year.

It costs less than you would think for me to do this. It's about $800 per trip for flight, food, lodging, etc. Of course, going there every six months (and using two weeks of my vacation time) is not nothing. Many of my friends want to help me do this work. You can help too! Send me $50 or $100 and it will be like you're going along on the trip with me. What better use can you think of for the money than making it so that Wintle can travel to the Dominican/Haiti border and help some strangers to have longer healthier lives? Please click to donate towards my trip so I can keep doing this awesome work.
