Medical Bills for Marcie!

This is long, so bear with me!

September12, 2021, I was in a life-changing motorcycle accident. It was supposed to be just a relaxing day on the bikes, but that all changed when the driver of the bike I was riding on was driving recklessly, hit the dirt shoulder and went down. I was dragged the length of a football field and took out a barb wire fence. I came to rest and ended of being left 10 feet away from a body of water. (This is all from what was told to me or I read on the police reports). I have no memory or the accident or months after it.

The people in the group we were riding with left me for dead on the side of LaGrange Road in LaGrange, California. They called for someone to pick up the driver of the motorcycle but did not call 911 to help me. They even told people to ‘…go away and I was fine'. A good samaritan found me and called for help after everyone involved was gone.

I was DOA when the ambulance arrived and they revived me, then rushed my to the nearest trauma center. I was identified as the wrong person, then was called a ‘Jane Doe'. Thankfully, someone recognized me and called my sister in-law, who is an ICU nurse in the hospital I was at, to identify me.

I underwent major back surgery, but had little chance of living. I should be paralyzed, but Im lucky to walk the little bit that I can. The Drs were afraid that I had suffered major brain damage and would not wake up. The full-face helmet I was wearing was destroyed. After in a coma for a week I woke up to my sister in-laws voice. Time could only tell if I was going to be coherent and functional. I have zero memory of the accident or anything at all previous to the accident until a few months went by.

The crash also resulted in my my right elbow and ankle being broken. The Dr who did the surgery to repair my breaks absolutely screwed up. The metal in my elbow had been exposed, my sutures were left in for 3 months and skin grew over them. My arm was stuck in a bent position and I could not use it. My previous orthopedic surgeon saw me to address the metal being exposed and he was concerned I would lose my arm. He did major surgery repairs. Straightened my arm, removed old sutures and saved my arm. I was in the hospital for a week to ensure my arm was safe. A few months later he had to remove screws from my ankle that the other Dr did incorrectly as well. My tendon was screwed into my ankle bone and was part of the reason I could not use my ankle or walk.

My head injury now causes me seizures and stability issues. It has been issue after issue and more hospital stays than I want to remember.

I have been going to physical therapy and following all recommendations from all of my Drs. I have not given up and continue to try and get better. My horses have always been a big part of my life and they are the best therapy one could ask for! So much was taken from me, but I'm still trying.

I have had a horse friend write this up for me, as it is still tough for me to do a lot of things. I was an avid and passionate rider, and I am trying to rehab to the point that I can ride regularly once again. I am having her make this fundraiser, as I cannot yet work, and have to pay for rehab and physical therapy out of pocket, at this point. I have also been cleared to return to (very carefully!) horseback riding as part of my therapy as well, so part of this fundraising goal is to also be able to buy a special and expensive riding vest, so I can ride as safely as possible. Thank you for your help in advance! I appreciate it more than you can possibly know!
