I am a special Education teacher in April 2021. In order to return to the classroom we were required to take the COVID vaccine. I had COVID and had not taken a vaccine in 30 years, but I wanted to get back to my students. April 13, 2021, I took the first shot. 14 days later when my colleagues could not reach me they called 911. Police and medical broke into my home and found me unconscious on the floor. I was rushed into emergency brain surgery. I remained in a coma. My family was told if I lived I would be a vegetable. My family was searching for a facility for my care. Weeks later, I woke up and needed a second surgery to stop the continued bleeding with a tube for drainage. Once a was stable the tube was removed and I was taken to a rehabilitation facility. I had PT, OT and cognitive therapy. I had to learn to eat, walk and talk again. My cognitive score was 16 out of 30 when I arrived. God and my sister convinced me that I could recover. When I left rehabilitation my cognitive level was 23. Today I am back to teaching. However, I still have the hole in my head that still drains blood constantly. They never closed the hole. My insurance will not cover the wound care. It frequently becomes infected making me very sick for days. I found a clinic that said they may be able to help. In order to see them the cost starts at $1200. Then of course there is the removal of the thing that is in there that clicks for some reason. It also makes a suction noise. I know this may gross people out, but it has become my life. Daily wiping up the blood that streams down my neck and gets clumped in my hair. Trying to keep it clean so it does not get infected again. I just want this to be closed so I can be the happy, healthy and joyful teacher and person I used to be.
