Obituary for Sheryl A. Slamon

(May 7, 1961 – December 10, 2024)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sheryl A. Slamon, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, on December 10, 2024, at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. She was 63 years old.

Born on May 7, 1961, in Somerville, New Jersey, to William and Carolyn Koch, Sheryl grew up as the eldest of three sisters. A proud graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan High School (Class of 1976), she later earned her certification as a Medical Assistant from Warren County Community College. Sheryl dedicated her career to caring for others, working at St. Luke’s University Health Network and Hickory Run Family Medicine, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and kindness.

Sheryl was more than her career; she was a beacon of love, laughter, and joy. Known for her fondness for the color purple, her playful love of Minions “Banana!” and her ever-present Crocs, Sheryl brought lightheartedness wherever she went. Her homemade meals were legendary, and her hugs could make anyone feel like the most important person in the world.

Her family and friends remember her as a nurturing "Mama Bird," always ready with advice, love, and a warm heart. She had a magical ability to make everyone feel welcome and cherished, often saying, “If you haven’t grown up yet, you never have to.” Sheryl’s zest for life and her Peter Pan outlook inspired all who knew her.

Sheryl is reunited in peace with her parents, William and Carolyn Koch; her daughter, Tara Slamon (Joseph Rivera); and her brother-in-law, Tommy Rayburn. She is survived by her life partner, Farley Westbrook; loving son, Ryan Slamon (Mary W. Davis); her devoted sisters, Wendy Koch Peitz (John Pietz) and Tracy Rayburn, and her cherished nephews, TJ Rayburn (Sammi), Leigh Pietz (Nycole), and Devin Peitz (Elisa Kosinski). She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.

Sheryl will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to shine through the lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will remain a guiding light for all lucky enough to call her family or friends.

A memorial will be held on January 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Mainline Catering & Events, 341 Pursel Street, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, with a reception. In place of flowers, donations are appreciated for a bench dedicated to Sheryl and Tara.
