Mike's Fight Against Cancer

Hello, my name is Mike Uttecht and I live in Norfolk, Nebraska. I am 52 years old, divorced and living with my mom. I have 3 wonderful children of 18, 20, 22 years old and a beautiful grandson of 6 months old. July 2017, I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and have been fighting to live one day at a time and to stay positive! I have decided to open an account to help with all of my medical bills and everyday expenses that I can't pay for due to not being able to work. Below is my journey and story

3 years ago in 2014 I was living my life and getting ready to go to church. I woke up having some pain and issues moving, I decided to go to the hospital and found out that I was having a stroke. It was caused by high blood pressure, I was in the hospital for over 2 weeks. I lost mobility in my left side and had to go to physical therapy to gain it back. The stroke caused me to get type 2 diabetes.

This past July I went into the hospital due to my right leg being swollen. They did an ultrasound and couldn't find what was causing the swelling. They decided to run more tests and did a cat scan and ultrasound with no success. They did a biopsy of my lymph nodes and took 6 pieces of them, it was then that they discovered I had stage 4 prostate cancer. Unfortunately my case is incurable. The doctor is unable to remove my prostate due to being to enlarged. They also were unable to put stints in my kidneys due to them also being to enlarged.

This past August I started chemo for my cancer, but had to stop due to my blood pressure being to high. This was caused by the extreme pain I was having in my lower back. I ended up going into the Clarkson Tower hospital in Omaha.

This past September I almost had another stroke due to my high blood pressure again. I was in and out of the hospital all month due to high blood pressure and extreme back pain. They did some more tests and discovered I had cancer in my lower back. They found 6 cancer cells in my lumbar spine and it was also in my bones, this was causing my lower back pain. During this time I was unable to do any kind of chemo due to my high blood pressure.

This October I was able to do 10 radiation treatments for my back helping with my pain, I was in the Norfolk Care and Rehab Center for 3 weeks recovering. Starting October 31st I will start 8 rounds of chemo.

My dream in life are to be able to meet my 2 favorite football teams, the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs! I would also love to meet my 2 favorite country singers Keith Urban and George Straight!

I would like to thank everyone who has been here for me at my worst and being such wonderful friends. It means so much to me to have so many people who love and care for me! I appreciate everyone who helps and has helped me! God has a plan for me, and he is in my life everyday. I trust in Him and His plan for me! I have been taking one day at a time and staying positive! I go to church as much as I can, body willing, and surround myself with Him!

I want to thank you all again for everything!
