Musab Injured Gaza

My name is Nina Gorman, a psychotherapist and social science teacher in Philadelphia, PA, USA. I am doing this campaign to help 14 year year old Musab Khaled Faisel from Khalwaldeh area of the Gaza, Palestine who had his leg amputated after losing his family of mom and dad, his 3 brothers Mohammed, Ashraf & Akram and his two sisters Lian and Suaad who were killed in tent bombing. I came to know Musab when my friend Mohammed Q from Deir Al-Balah, told me about his situation. Since Musab recuperating in hospital is transitioning to live with his Aunt Nour (age 43) and uncle Mahdi (age 46) and his cousins Tayseer (19), Abdullah (17), Hadeel (15) and Mahmoud (13) I am doing this campaign to support the family and Musab for food, water, and basic supplies to survive in their tent in Gaza and for Musab to get his medications and supplements needed to heal from the amputation and funds permitting to evacuate.

I am concerned that he and his cousins like most children in Gaza are getting thinner and malnourished and Musab struggling to heal from malnourishment. This is due to the near total blockade at time of this writing of food, water, medical supplies, fuel, and electricity and even baby formula as a method of war to attempt to exterminate the people of Gaza .

There are still some canned foods available mostly lentils and a little vegetables and flour but prices are exorbitant like 7 dollars a pound or more for a tomato, potato or onion or 13 dollars for a pound of flour. There is no meat, or eggs and fish very hard to find and at extreme prices since the farms were bombed and the few fisherman are bombed if they attempt to fish and there is risk of contamination since the sewage floods into the sea an in the rain into the tents.  No one can swim in the sea because of risk of rash and disease and is difficult to cook since there is no gas for gas tube, only wood at expensive prices that chokes the air when everyone in the crowded tent camps attempt to cook what little they have.

Musab and his extended family like all in Gaza endure daily bombings with terrifying sounds with Musab especially traumatized from all the physical and emotional pain he has endured. He has struggled with much pain with the amputation with minimal medicine available and healing is difficult due to lack of food and drink. It would also be nice if Musab could have a phone since with no phone he is bored and more isolated and more difficult to contact his extended family or friends. The family though originally not wanting to leave Gaza now that Gaza has become unlivable have made the difficult choice to evacuate if possible to another country likely in Europe funds permitting. At this point they do not know which country will take them but we know that Egypt has been organizing evacuations via the private company Y-Hala during the first part of the war and plans to continue the evacuations to Egypt after the ceasefire.

Though it makes the family sad to leave, they feel they have no other choice since most of the water and sewage infrastructure has been bombed, all universities, most schools and shelters, all hospitals with hospitals barely functioning and 90 percent of the homes including theirs with many of their hopes and dreams with it.

I urge you to donate what you can to help Musab to and his extended family, now his only family to survive in Gaza and for him to get he medications and supplements he needs to heal and for them to escape the hellscape and start a new life free from hunger, thirst, explosions and bombs that terrorize them daily. As so many say in Gaza, they are tired, very tired and feel that enough is enough.

Here is Musab in his own words:

My name is Musab Khaled Faisel. I am 14 years old from Khawaldeh, Gaza, Palestine.

It is very hard for me to talk about what I have endured in Gaza.I lived with my parents and brothers and sisters before the war with usually feeling safe though I have grown up with three wars and we often did not have electricity due to the blockade of 18 years and went without many items. But we were able to eat and have a home and my parents were able to provide for us with business selling delicious falafel and fava beans.

Our home was a loving home with laughter. I went to school and enjoyed my studies and my friends even though sometimes we would lose friends to wars with much sadness. Then this war of genocide came with its bombs night after night, our home destroyed, living in a tent and constant evacuations moving place to place with constant fear and then hunger with the constant blockade of everything.

Then the most horrible day of my life happened. I feared I would be injured or killed or my parents and brothers and sisters would be injured or killed since the explosions were constant but at the same time I thought it would not happen to me or my family. My family was in the tent when the bombing came and my parents were killed and all my brothers and sisters. I hate to think of that moment when they were killed and can still hear the screams but could do nothing and have nightmares and wish I could go back in time and that it never happened.

I have never experienced so much pain and could not believe that my leg was gone. I was lucky I guess to get rescued but at that moment I did not want to live. I cried and cried and wanted to only be with my parents and my siblings. I endured a painful operation with pain after and I still have pain but the most pain is missing my family and knowing I will not see them until I go to heaven. Unlike many children in Gaza who have lost all relatives, I am blessed that I have my Aunt Noor and Uncle Madhi and my cousins Tayseer, Abdullah, Hadeel and Mahmoud who all love me.

Since all of Gaza is destroyed with no schools here or mosques, or homes, or anything my aunt and uncle have decided is best for us to move to another country to start a new life but we still want to return some day since this is our home. I really want to finish my school and do something with my life someday, something where I will use my mind and help people if I can get my mind clear enough to focus on school after healing from my trauma and loss of my whole family. I want to get prostheses for my missing leg which I need so I can move and walk with something other than the crutches I have now that Nina and my friend Mohammed helped me to get. It would also be nice to have a phone to talk to my friends and look up things and listen to music. I like to draw and write stories and maybe I will be an artist or writer. But right now we need food, medicine, water and some items for the tent.

I hate being in hospital or needing to move and live in tent but someday God willing we will have a comfortable home and be free of bombs, and constant fear of injury and constant hunger. Anything you can do to help me and my extended family we would be most grateful. We just want to survive and be free of nightmares and I want to laugh again. Many blessings to you.

Sincerely Musab
