MY FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

My dearest brothers and sisters in Christ,

Have you ever heard the call of doing something great for God, but your timing was not what God had planned? Have you ever struggled in your faith wondering if God could still use you when you have felt all washed up?

My name is Kim Johnson, and in January 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, due to a genetic mutation. In July of this year, I am planning to undergo my second treatment at Johns Hopkins (JH) in Baltimore Maryland since one of the tumors has returned.

When I was first introduced to Jesus in the late 1980's, God put it on my heart to desire to be on a mission team, but as usual, life happens. I was married at the time to my first husband, who did not hear this call, and my dream soon diminished as I battled uncontrolled depression, separation and divorce. Eventually as time went on, even my relationship with God came to a halt.

From May 2019 through January 2020, as I was suffering from a mental breakdown, I was stripped of pretty much all that I owned on this earth. I came to live with my parents in Williamsburg, Virginia. I lost my job, my career, my intellect, my memory, my livelihood, my car, my apartment, my relationships in North Carolina, most of my material possessions, my mind and eventually my second marriage. I believe that God had used this humbling experience to bring me back to him and in September 2020, I was restored to him and to you all – his people.

In June 2023, Shawn Wooten from the REVIVEE program came and preached about his missionary work and his call for disciples of Jesus to move to specific Eastern European countries to strengthen the churches there. God put the idea of doing missionary work for him once again on my heart. Despite my diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, I had applied for the 10-month program in August 2023 with full disclosure of my health issues, believing in God's miraculous healing power and having the confidence that this was the time for God to fulfill my dream.

During the interview process, though my heart was motivated to do whatever to serve God in this way, because of the uncertainty of the status of my health at that time, I decided that it would be the best to withdraw my application for REVIVEE 5.0.

Earlier this year, a scan showed that the one cancerous tumor in my left lung returned, and the JH doctors have proposed a treatment that could potentially allow my cancer to go into remission.

Because my cancer currently limits my ability to work full time, my main source of income these days has been from our government's social security disability insurance benefit. On top of that, because my health insurance does not cover this treatment at JH and since I will be staying in Baltimore for my treatment, I have started this fund-raising campaign to help offset these costs. So, on July 11th, I will begin this intense six-week series in hopes to eradicate the tumor and prayerfully put my cancer in remission.

Please consider supporting me in my dream to be “cancer-free” so that I can once again apply to join a mission team and prayerfully not have to withdraw my application due to my health issues. Thank you for your generous donations and prayers. To God be the glory forever! Amen.

Your loving sister in Christ always,

Kim
