For the first time in over five years, I finally have a home that feels safe, peaceful, and mine.

The last few years have been some of the hardest of my life. I’ve survived domestic violence, recently got out of jail, and have been trying to rebuild everything from the ground up. On top of that, I had emergency gallbladder surgery that took a week of recovery away from my ability to move forward financially and get back on my feet.

Today, I am living in an Oxford House sober living home and doing everything I can to create a different future for myself. I started a new job, but there will be about three weeks before I receive my first paycheck. During that time, I still have to pay $225 each week to keep my housing, and I also owe $100 toward probation obligations.

This home means more than having a roof over my head. It’s the first place in years where I feel safe and comfortable. I decorated my room because, for the first time in a long time, I finally believed I deserved a place that felt like home.

On July 5, 2026, I will reach 60 days sober. That same day also marks one year since losing my mom. Instead of letting grief and everything I’ve been through pull me backward, I’m choosing recovery, stability, and hope.

I’m working toward rebuilding my life and creating the foundation to regain custody of my children and become the person and parent they deserve.
