New Microschool, Maryland
Help launch a new Microschool in Columbia, Maryland – Fall 2026
Hello friends, family, and future supporters,
My name is Charlene Mead, and I’m thrilled to announce a dream in the making — the launch of Patuxent Explorers Microschool, opening Fall 2026 in Columbia, Maryland! This innovative school will serve students in grades 1–5 and is rooted in a deep belief that every child deserves an education that honors their uniqueness, fosters their curiosity, and prepares them not just for tests — but for life.
But to bring this dream to life, I need your help.
Why Patuxent Explorers Matters
Far too many children are lost in overcrowded classrooms, stuck in a one-size-fits-all system that doesn’t see them — not really. They are gifted artists, budding engineers, curious naturalists, and kind-hearted leaders, yet their talents often go unnoticed. At Patuxent Explorers, we’re building something different.
The microschool will offer:
✅ Mastery-based learning where students progress at their own pace
✅ Project-based experiences that connect learning to the real world
✅ Personalized curriculum tailored to each child's strengths and needs
✅ A close-knit community of educators, families, and learners who grow together
In short, a place where kids feel seen, safe, and inspired to thrive.
Why Your Support Is Needed
To make this dream a reality, the next crucial step is securing a physical location where learning, laughter, and discovery can unfold every single day. This means:
- Leasing a safe, accessible, and welcoming learning space
- Making essential renovations and safety upgrades
- Purchasing classroom furnishings and learning materials
- Covering initial insurance, licensing, and setup fees
Our goal is to raise $25,000 to secure and prepare this location so that we can open our doors to our first cohort of eager, young explorers in Fall 2026.
How You Can Make a Difference
By contributing, you are not just donating — you’re planting seeds that will grow confident readers, imaginative thinkers, and compassionate citizens. You are giving a child a place where their gifts are nurtured and their voice matters.
No amount is too small. Every donation gets us one step closer. The school is an LLC, so, unfortunately, your donations will not be tax deductible. If you can’t give, you can still help tremendously by sharing this campaign with your network.
As a former educator, I spent 20 years in classrooms where I saw kids who truly would benefit from a small class size. It is my dream to create a meaningful education for these types of kids. Thanks!
