"My injury occurred when I was 17 years old during a trip to Canyon Lake with a friend and his family. As we were getting ready to leave, I dove off the side of the boat—unaware of how shallow the water was. I struck the bottom headfirst, instantly becoming paralyzed and submerged. Thankfully, my brother and a couple of friends quickly pulled me out, and I was med-evaced to the hospital. I was diagnosed with a C6–C7 spinal cord injury, which left me paralyzed and dependent on a wheelchair.

About a year ago, I earned my real estate license, and I truly love the work I do. However, I’ve faced several health-related challenges—one of the most significant being pressure sores. These sores are not only extremely painful, but can also become serious medical issues if not managed properly. Unfortunately, my current wheelchair is old and worn out, which has made the issue worse.

A new wheelchair would make a tremendous difference in my life, both professionally and personally. As a realtor, appearances and first impressions matter. My current wheelchair is outdated and has become a bit of an eyesore, which can feel discouraging when meeting with new or potential clients. Beyond appearance, the physical toll of using an older chair is also becoming more noticeable. It’s harder to push, causes strain on my shoulders and arms, and contributes to the pressure issues I’m experiencing.

More than just a piece of equipment, a new wheelchair would significantly improve my day-to-day routine, help protect my health, and allow me to continue growing in my career with confidence and dignity. It would be an investment in both my independence and overall quality of life."
