No hip sockets! Need FHO

Aloha! Iʻm Laura & Maka is my 3yr old rescue. He is a very tall, mostly white, Rhodesian Ridgeback/PB mix. He is very sweet, friendly, and ridiculously expressive.

Maka was born without hip sockets and needs FHO surgery to have a normal lifespan. (Hawaii does not have a surgeon performing canine hip replacements).

Iʻve had 4+ surgeries in the last few years. While I am almost at full recovery, the additional expense of his surgery came at the wrong time as Iʻm playing catch up. Yet, if I donʻt find a way for his surgery, he will be in too much pain to continue life... Maka has helped save my life... so that cannot happen...

He has MANY dog and human friends of all sizes and ages, from the tiny puppy to the very frail senior dog..Maka is has helped give confidence to at least 20+ fosters dogs. It breaks my heart that I had to pause fostering and rescue until he has surgery.

Maka means "eyes" in ʻOlelo Hawaii. He is so EXPRESSIVE + the top of his ridgeback has another set of eyes. Maka knows commands in English & American Sign Language.

Without receiving FHO surgery he will be in too much pain to continue life. I already limit his activities: beach (he loves to swim and run), play dates, etc. I also learned to give him Adequan injections at home. He is compensating for the pain too much already (bunny hops, favoring one side, and more)

Recently he was laying of the floor, crying in pain. He wagged his tail as I layed on the floor with him. Heʻs only 3!

I cannot imagine putting him down and I cry just typing this. He is my everything.

I am doing multiple fundraising and crowdsourcing opportunities.

With your help Dr. Kelly @ Aloha Affordable Vet in Aiea will be doing the surgery on my Maka Safranski.
