My name is Genevieve Hamilton, and I live in San Antonio, TX 78237. I am disabled, I am low income, and I am a victim of domestic violence.

The person who hurt me ran up my CPS Energy account to $2,500. That bill is not a bill I ran up living my life — it came from violence I survived and had to flee. I do not have the money to pay it, and because I cannot pay it, CPS will not turn my lights on.

I have now been without lights for weeks. My home is dark, and everyday life — cooking, bathing, feeling safe — is hard without power. Insulin for a diabetic member of my household must stay cold, which is frightening when there is no power.

I am asking for help, not because I will not pay what is truly mine, but because I cannot pay a bill created by abuse, and I should not have to live in the dark because of it. Please help me get my lights back on.
