Please, can you help keep Kim alive? Can you share this appeal? Can you be one in her village?

In 2016, Kim beat cancer. In 2024, Kim conquered addiction. In 2025, Kim escaped six years of domestic violence. This year, Kim and her daughter escaped homelessness. Kim is 43 years old. Now, her body is trying to die, and she wants to live.

The biggest current medical concern is that Kim’s body is having trouble absorbing nutrients, and a stent in her esophagus to keep it open also contributes to difficulty swallowing food. Her current diagnoses include malnutrition and failure to thrive, meaning her body needs urgent help to get back on track before it crashes.

She needs TPN—Total Parenteral Nutrition—which is a method of delivering nutrients directly to the bloodstream on a daily basis, bypassing Kim’s unhelpful digestive tract. TPN has worked for her before, during difficult pregnancies. Now, her insurance won’t cover it, even though her doctor agrees it’s her best chance.

After beating cancer, addiction, domestic violence, and homelessness, Kim has zero financial resources. She is currently living with her daughter, who is also barely making ends meet after finally getting into an apartment earlier this year. They’ve already called on their own family and friends. Their savings are gone. They’ve borrowed as much as they can. They desperately need a larger village.

$2,000 a month would cover the TPN to provide the nutrition that could help her body recover. Another $1,000 a month would cover living expenses so that health and stability might allow Kim to work again. She’s currently applying for state disability aid and Social Security Disability, but the 7-month decision delay won’t keep her alive now.

For context, Kim has lived a life of miraculous survivals:

• She learned to walk again after a car accident that should have killed her
• She survived two overdoses caused by her abusive ex
• She survived a ruptured gall bladder and emergency surgery while 22 weeks pregnant
• She survived multiple episodes of internal bleeding due to severe ulcers, including hospital stays and blood transfusions—one episode just this month
• Her medical MyChart reads like anyone’s worst nightmare, but she’s still alive.

I’ve been to the hospital with her. I’ve seen her fighting spirit. I’ve seen her generosity—the way she bakes pies to share, the way she cleans wherever she is, the way she is always offering to help.  She’s given her need to God over and over, and now she needs another miracle.

And one more crisis—Kim has a court date on August 10. There is total honesty here—honest accountability and honest need. Two years ago, right before Kim took herself voluntarily to detox to beat her addiction to pain medication, she was pulled over for driving erratically, and a toxicology report found dangerous levels in her blood.

She’s been clean on her own willpower for two years now, and the DUI charge has only now caught up with her. She owns responsibility; she’s willing to take the consequences, but right now there is a very real chance that any significant amount of time in jail—without many of her current medications and without access to the nutrition systems that her body needs—might kill her.

The alternative is a $14,000 plea deal. If Kim had $14,000, she could spend the minimum number of days in jail and go back as soon as possible to convincing her body that this life is worth living. Right now, she doesn’t have that money. Even if she raises it, she’s torn between spending it on TPN to keep living or spending it to avoid jail time so that she might not die.

We don’t think any of God’s children should have to choose between maybe dying and maybe dying.

We’re praying hard. And we’re asking. We’re astounded by the way the community of humans in this world can rally to offer hope where there is pain. We rejoice with the others on this platform who have received such support and care. And we bring one more person who needs the love of a village.

We’re asking for $50,000 to cover one year of life—TPN (24,000), cost of living (12,000), and court fees (14,000, only $3,500 of which is due August 10th). If Kim can make it one year, then Social Security Disability should have kicked in and she may even be able to work again by then and keep going. Let’s help her keep going.
