634... That's a crazy insane amount of people who died in the year 2023 from heat related deaths. That's ONE City, from ONE state. The heat continues to torture us, and if you have ever had the unfortunate chance of being behind bars at this time of year, then you know first hand what torture is. When I read this in an article online, I just about cried. 634 people in Phoenix alone, what about in every other major city in the United States? I'm appalled by this, especially knowing first hand what it feels like to be locked up during summer months. Temperatures reaching the late 120s... We have the ability to create robots, and technology that's unbelievably advanced. All the gidgets and gadgets, and let's take in the fact that, TDCJ allows for purchase and personal use: fans, radios, curling irons...etc.. which ALL have and required plugs, and normal electrical outlets. You give inmates a fan, which is a device that blows air, but during the summer months, it's like having a furnace. You provide inmates the opportunity to buy goods from the "store" for which you profit from. Ice cream is a want, not a need. But you deny inmates the opportunity to purchase a device that blows cool air that could be LIFE SAVING. The last time I remember 2 pints of blue bell and a 12 pack of Cokes ever saving my life, I was 15 and going through my first breakup. THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING. BIRDS FALLING FROM THE SKIES.SEA HORSES BOILING IN THE BAY. .We are already serving time away from our families, 80% of us unjustly so, mainly because our own ignorance, because we aren't given a chance or opportunity to learn our rights and fight for our freedom and what's even more saddening is the people who are made to look like they are supposed to "help" us, could honestly care less. Just another number. A rotation to keep their paychecks coming, so THEIR families are fed, clothed, protected. Not one of the 634. Nope.
