Hello everyone! My name is Shelley. I am a retired nurse, a neighbor from Felton, and a dear friend of Richard‘s. Richard has received some really difficult news recently that he has stage 3 colo/rectal cancer. While this is shocking news, Richard is trying his best to stay positive and grounded and to fight the disease head-on.

Many of his friends have reached out and asked how they can help Richard in this struggle. Firstly, please make contact. The love, support, and comfort of his community will be one of his most important healing agents. I think regular texts checking in are so helpful for one who lives alone, to know that they are NOT alone.

One of Richard's biggest concerns is financial (medical bills are already racking up) as he will not be able to work while undergoing his treatment over the coming months, so we have set up this Fundraiser.

We have set a couple of goals: To help pay his bills while he is in treatment and to send him to a medically supervised diet recovery program post-treatment. We will reassess further once Richard gets through these critical first 3-4 months.

Projected expense details: Medical $20K, four months living expenses $10K, True North facility $15K, Buffer for another 4 months living expenses or future medical expenses $10K.

To anyone who knows Richard this is not news, but for any folks who've found this page and don't know Richard, he is one of the kindest and gentlest people you could ever meet, a loyal friend, and a caring community member. Richard has volunteered at Food Banks, Hospice of Santa Cruz County, cared for the disabled, and even traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild houses.

Richard is an avid (some would say rabid 😁) English football fan, as well as a passionate music lover, yogi and hiker, and we'd love to get him back to all these things as soon as possible.
