Our house is Killing Us
Help Us Escape Our Mold-Infested Home
For the past four years, my son's and I, along work two rescues; and old grumpy cat and ridiculously happy little dog, have rented a house that instantly felt like home. Our planHowever, over the last year my health began to decline rapidly. I kept attributing it to stress, age, or other health issues — but we recently discovered the truth: Our house is filled with toxic mold.
The mold is not on the surface — it’s inside the walls, hidden, and spreading everywhere. My landlord refuses to help, even telling me the house would likely be condemned if it were inspected, and world be a good tax write off for him.
Meanwhile, I have a severe mold allergy, and being in this environment has taken a devastating toll on my health, not to mention my state of mind. Life is rough for everyone, but being sick at least 4-5 days a week makes work and everything else harder.
I work from home as a remote healthcare worker, which means I spend nearly all of my time inside this sick house. My symptoms are worsening rapidly, and staying here is simply not safe. But on Friday, my youngest, who lives at home while attending college, tested for mold allergies that he never had prior.
I work hard, I take good care of my family. But this was so unexpected, that we have nothing in savings. I make enough to pay loan payments, but was turned down by everyone because I just bought a truck before this happened, so they say I can't add a second loan until this one is paid down or my income goes up. I've tried every type of legitimate lender.
I've never asked for a handout before. Not even sure I'm doing it right. But I'm not even asking for anything for free I would happily pay back any and every person that helped. I can get a second job again once we're out of this sick house. However right now I can barely get out of bed thank God I can actually work in bed LOL
I've called every kind of agency there is from Goodwill to the salvation army to the county social services. And they all say that there is literally no funding left anymore because of all people that took funding they didn't need during covid there's none left now for people who need it. That answer is the same across the board; churches, government agencies, social services, United way, and so on. I assure you I tried every possible avenue for asking for help on here.
We are open to any and all help, loans, suggestions, etc.
We need help covering:
First and last month’s rent
1.5 months Security deposit
Moving costs: basically a U-Haul for a day or a day and a half and that's about it. But that's a lot right now. Any other time I would have thought, no big deal, $8,000. However, when you don't have it, it might as well be a $1,000,000.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, supporting, and helping us find a safe and healthy home.
