On 02/23/2024, my life changed completely. As a teacher, I have always given all of myself for others, sacrificing anything and everything for my students and community. I thought I was coming down with a cold and laid down. The next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital, hooked up to multiple IVs. My cold was Pneumonia and Sepsis of the bloodstream. I had a 102-degree fever, incoherent speech, and drifting in and out of consciousness. I almost died according to the emergency room doctors. Also, I was informed I have a blood disorder that will require routine infusions for the rest of my life. As my life was turned upside down, I had to take off 3 weeks just to recover. I was so weak, that I had to have someone help me into the shower, use a cane to walk, and deal with the physical reactions of a large series of transfusions totaling over 80000 mg of blood and medication. My employer decided my medical stay does not warrant me pay and I am left with my own devices. I am begging for this amount just so I can get by and transition back to the job I love. For once in my life, I have to consider my life and my health above all else.
