Please Help Jesse Root

On Tuesday, February 8th, Jesse and her roommate and best friend, packed up everything they needed to set off on an adventure - they were leaving California to drive cross country to Indiana to live and help take care of Jesse's grandfather who has dementia. They spent their first night in Flagstaff, and set off the next day to travel through AZ, New Mexico and on to Oklahoma. Just 5 miles into New Mexico that day, something tragic happened. Traffic was completely stopped due to road construction ahead, and due to several factors, Jesse couldn't stop in time - ending up colliding with the back of the semi. Tragically her friend and travel companion lost their life in the accident and Jesse's was transported to the local hospital in critical condition. Shortly after arriving in Gallup, she was airlifted to the University of New Mexico trauma center due to her extensive injuries.

They were traveling with Jesse's 4 dogs and her pet possum. Two dogs were caught and transported to the local Humane Society, while two ran. Thanks to the amazing help of several local non-profits, both dogs were found very near the crash site outside Gallup, unharmed. All are being cared for by Gallup-McKinley Humane Society, and Bella, Jesse's emotional support dog was allowed to be taken to visit her in the hospital.

Thankfully, about a week later, Jesse is doing well. She had multiple injuries and broken bones including skull fractures, brain hemorrhage, broken hip/pelvis, arm, eye sockets, clavicle and more. As you can imagine, she has a long road ahead of her with weeks of therapy and rehab.

She's lucky to have basic insurance with a very high deductible and out of pocket maximum, but it won't cover much beyond her emergency bills. Right now, we don't have a way to get her to Indiana to start rehab, so we are raising money to help pay her medical bills and possibly transport costs, along with other expenses related to the accident.

We appreciate all the love and support you have all shown us, and thank you in advance for anything you can do to help make this situation a little easier for her.
