please help my parrot
hi, im trying to raise money for my Yellow Nape Amazon parrot. Her name is Charlie. She has been my little buddy for 33years now. i had her since she was only 6months old. so she is like my child. big part of my family.i could not imagine life without her. She means the world to us. my girlfriend is disabled and we are living on low income. poverty level income.
about my situation:
she had problems breathing for over a week i have been through 3 vet referals which started in york pa which was friday july 31 2020. they gave her x-rays and prescribed some meds. which cost us approx. $350,but didn't see anything obstructive. didnt seem to get any better. so they sent me down to MD. which was about 80min. drive, because they were the closest around that had an endoscope to look down her esophagus. all he wanted to do is give me a visual exam and draw a conclusion for endoscopy but didnt have time or he just didn't wanna do the procedure. but charged me about $80 and a road trip for nothing.
so we got back to our vet in york and left her know that we had no luck there. almost a week later now they did some bloodwork in york. that cost us another $550.+around $100 for more meds .that put us over $1000 in one week of exams.
they now referred us to Mount. Laurel animal hospital yesterday morning.8/8/2020. Which was in New Jersey. about a 2-3 hour drive from where we live in Lancaster county Pa. They are the next closest vet hospital with the knowledge and skills that have an endoscope. Waited 2 hours for their exam. They didn't see anything wrong through the exam so they wanted to keep her overnight and run more test which finally included the endoscopy to find the obstruction.
then came the cost of the procedures and test and overnight stay, medicine etc. it just all added up to an estimate which we had to pay upfront 75% of the high price of the estimate. meaning if they don't have to use all the money that was estimated i will have credit toward any more bills or refund. so our first deposit was $3,484.00 ...floored us ! But they seem to know what they are doing. so we payed and agreed to leave her there in good hands where they can monitor her and have her sit in an oxygen chamber. they did the procedure that night.(last night} 8/8/2020
not to mention the rental car we had to get to travel that far, we also left the the vets and looked for the cheapest motel that we could spend the night hoping to pick up Charlie by next day. so that was extra money we didn't plan on.
This morniing (8/9/2020) we got a call from the vet saying Charlie recovered fine from the anesthesia and that they could not find anything obstructive or odd that stood out as anything wrong. Only to suggest another option of a fungal test and a CT scan which is real thorough of an exam which could give a clearer picture of the air sacks in her lungs and closer look at the organs and DNA structure. it's now sunday and they said they won't be able to schedule that exam til tomorrow at the earliest or maybe tuesday. which will add another $2000 to our bill after tomorrow. Our current bill status is about $2,800 , so the extra $2000 after these tests will put our bill past our deposit amount. which will wipe us out completely of money. and there are still no guarantees that they will find anything! Then what? Maybe more options ?
We seem to be in a dark place right now and running out of options, not to mention money. it is really taking a toll on us mentally, emotionally, financially and physically with lack of sleep. She still has life in her and has the will to live. she tries to eat but seems difficult for her sometimes. and has panic attacks when she seems to have episodes of catching her breath. Poor Thing is suffering through this,so time is a critical factor and she can start going downhill fast. it's already been two weeks since she showed signs of trouble.
we came back home for now so we don't have to shell out anymore money to stay down there since there is nothing we can do til they can figure the problem out with her breathing episodes. until we can go back down to bring her home healthy ,each day they keep her is $70 a night just for boarding fees. not to mention meds, oxygen chamber, monitoring and etc. etc. it will just keep adding up which will be way over the $5000 that i'm trying to collect to help save my suffering parrots life.
so if you can afford to give anything and can find it in your heart to help me help her through this,i would be very thankful and promise to pay it forward someday when i am able to help someone else that may need help in the future. i am just hoping for a miracle to happen. She is so precious and adorable and also too healthy to just abandon her. i promised her that i would never give up on her.. but i really need some help right about now. they will not continue procedures without having money.
Please Help. i have no more money and no more options. i don't know what else to do. i'm at your mercy. There are no assistance agencies available for these kind of situations for animals. especially exotic animals.
thank you for your time and consideration in this horrible situation.it just happened all of a sudden and all too quick. She needs all the help she can get right now.
i will try and keep this updated daily so you can check on her status and how she is doing from day to day. and please, donate any amount big or small. And if you cant afford a donation,at least help us by spreading the word and share this link to social media sites as much as you can.
even if and/or when she comes home, the bills will still exist. And every dollar counts !
