David said he was responding to a Domestic Violence call in which a husband was severely beating his wife and daughter. David said the caller advised the husband was extremely intoxicated and threaten to do more damage. David said once he arrived he made contact with the wife and daughter to which David said he could see the horror and fear in there eyes. David made contact with the husband, who was 6-4 and 400 pounds. Now, if you know David he is not a small man. David is 6-3 and 290. But as a mother you will alway look at your child as your baby. But David continued his story and told me he tried to get him out of the house to which David said he became hostile to him and violent. The husband told David to leave and raised his right fist to strike him and David took action. David picked up the large man to miss the punch and while escorting him to the ground, observed a one year old baby behind him in the way of being crushed. Now mind you the man was punching David and biting David while he observed the baby and at the moment he saw twisted the man to miss the baby. Now this is where the problems start. David in the action of twisting said he felt and heard a huge snap and instant severe pain. David was able to secure the man and place him under arrest. I'm happy to say the man was found guilty and sent to prison for up to 20 years for the offense of Domestic Violence and Assault of a Public Servant. David then went to the hospital to get all the x-rays and medicine he could to help him through the pain with only missing work for a week. During the next following years David began to have consent trouble with his back and filed insurance claims with Texas Workman Comp to obtain a MRI which he was denied again. If any one knows Workman Comp they denied anything and everything. David for the next 4 years was in and out of emergency rooms and Doctor's visits. During this time David was a dedicated Police Officer and with a Department short staff, always worked to cover shifts, even to my despise. Well with doctors only saying it was Sciatica and just giving him more pain pills to take, which everyone knows it is not good my son just keep listening to the doctors, until after several incidents that caused him more pain. My son was part of some of the most horrible call for service a Police Officer can be called to. My son responded to shootouts, barricaded subjects with weapons, sexual assault, accidents and much more he will never tell me. David finally said enough was enough when he could not even lift a gallon of milk, he took it upon himself to go to a private Neurosurgeon. To his horror and mine David's back was in a short way to put it horrible. The doctor said he was giving my son a MRI and when the results came in it was not good. The doctor admitted him immediately in the month of May of this year. The doctor advised him that he will be needing a 4 hour surgery that will include Laminectomy. Well always expect the worst right? When David awoke from the surgery he was informed that the 4 hour surgery turned into a 10 hour surgery and he not only received a Laminectomy, but also had 4 disc fusions and 2 Laminectomy. The doctor informed him that his L3 and L4 were completely broke and was working but his and other doctor advise for approximately 2 years. Now, as a mother can you believe how he must of felt working in pain for 2 years not knowing his back was broken, working on the streets protecting people like you and I. David's doctor installed 4 false vertebra, 5 cushions, 4 bars and 8 screws in his lower back. The total cost of this operation was 275,500.000 and Workman comp denied all the procedures, saying his back was already in this condition. Well when most people can just concentrate on recovery, my son lost his job, house, wife and his belongings. Which placed my son in a deep depression to which he had to move everything he knows and worked for to New Mexico to stay with us. David is fighting the Workman Comp process but is unable to pay for attorney fee's and court cost. When this would be enough for most people David had two other surgeries in less then two months. His last being in August. David is again scheduled to have another surgery next week in El Paso. David's medical bills is to exceed ONE MILLION DOLLARS. Now for a mother I wish I could help him, but I am on a fixed income and try to assist him in anyway we can. We live two hours away from El Paso and it takes everything to budget money for him to go. David wants to work and its hard to watch a man like him fight the demons of this everyday. To watch you son feel like a bad father for not being to support his 14 year old son is hard to watch as well as watch my son every morning to get up and try to walk. I am asking from the bottom of my Heart to assist my son. My son has not only placed his life in danger for the safety of others, but he would continue to do it if he could. I am a proud mother and would not ask this if it was not only a last resort, but this is the health of my son and I do not know what else to do.
