Quentin for YDA Secretary

As a candidate for Secretary of the largest youth-led, partisan organization in the country, the Young Democrats of America, it is important that I have the necessary financial resources required to be successfully re-elected at our annual convention which is taking place in Dallas, Texas from August 9-12.  The money raised from this campaign will go towards helping me cover travel costs such as airfare and lodging.

Each generation of Democrats has its share of advantages and disadvantages. As Millennials, we are no different. While one can hurl many stereotypical insults our way (lack of work ethic, sense of entitlement, etc), there is one particular convenience we have than any of our predecessors: virtually unlimited ways to communicate. However, the downside to so many mediums is that it can be difficult to maximize each one effectively. That is why we must continue to improve our communications structure.

One of the primary reasons I ran for YDA Secretary two years ago was to improve how we communicate -- internally and externally. Better communications lead to greater transparency and an overall more effective organization, from the national level to the state and local chapters. We've made a lot of progress, and we can continue to build our efforts.
If re-elected as your Secretary, I will work hard to:

  • Make improvements to our email system - allowing the national organization to be more nimble and giving state and local chapters a more user-friendly (and still FREE) way to keep their members informed
  • Provide an easily accessible and frequently updated collection of issue-specific talking points to aid in rapid response and media requests for state and local chapters
  • Work with the board and the national committee on ways to improve and streamline our up-and-down communications strategy
I often say Secretary isn't always the sexiest position, but it is one that will allow me to implement all the great ideas the Young Democrats Forward slate has put forth. Ensuring we are keeping accurate minutes, communicating with the National Committee and other members, and having good records will allow YDA to be a premier organization.

We have a tough task ahead of us, with attacks by the GOP on our values coming on a daily basis, if not multiple times a day. That is why we need to elect not just strong individuals, but a team of people who have the experience and skills to take on any of these challenges immediately. I know that Louis, Danielle, and the rest of the Young Democrats Forward team will take lessons learned over the past 18 months, coupled with the fresh, new ideas many of you have shared to advance our communications strategy. It is vitally important your newly elected officers be on the same page and get down to business on day one.

Forward together,

Quentin
