Skyla is a wonderful, happy, and very tall five-year-old. She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and is very persistent when it comes to watching her show. She loves banana milkshakes that mom specially blends for her, along with all her meals. She loves when mom sings to her, laughs when the wind blows, and can still be the stubborn child like most.

Skyla has a condition called Rett's syndrome. This is a rare, genetic, neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls and leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of the child's life: their ability to speak, walk, eat, and even breathe easily (RettSyndrome.org). On average, most individuals with Rett's syndrome live into their '40s to '50s but can live much longer, as much is not really known about their life expectancy.

I am a nurse. It is my nature to help people. When a friend came to me asking for advice on how to get her disabled daughter, who loves baths, in and out of the bathtub, I told her of the possibility of a shower chair. However, they are extremely expensive, and she is unable to purchase something like this on her own. The child's father gets all her disability benefits, so her mother is left with having to pay out of pocket for her daughter's supplies when in her care. I decided to raise money to help her and her mother buy a rotating, automatic, bath lift that Skyla can use for her entire life.
