Rebuilding After the Fire

Help a Disabled Combat Veteran & His Dad Come Home After House Fire

My name is Barry Jones and I’m from Bastrop, Louisiana.

I’m a 100% disabled combat veteran. I served in the U.S. Army, deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and I left the Army with an honorable discharge after 6 years of service (plus additional inactive time).

A little over a year ago, my home burned down to the ground. The house was paid for, but I did not have insurance. In a single day, I lost the home and nearly everything I owned.

It’s just me and my father now. My family is gone, and my dad is in the early stages of dementia, so I’m trying to keep us safe and stable. Since the fire, we’ve been bouncing between rental places, trying to make ends meet, and it has been a constant uphill battle.

Because of my service-connected disabilities (PTSD and anxiety), I struggle to work consistently, and I’m not the most social person — not by choice — so I don’t have a big circle of friends or support to lean on.

I’m starting this fundraiser because we need a real path forward — stable housing, basic replacement essentials, and the ability to work toward returning home to our land instead of staying stuck in survival mode.

If you’re able to help, even a small donation makes a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this page means just as much.

Thank you for reading, praying, sharing, and helping us take a step toward stability again.

How the funds will be used

Donations will go toward:

  • Housing stability: rent support, deposit, utilities
  • Replacing essentials lost in the fire: clothing, beds, basic furniture, household items
  • Transportation and basic living costs: gas, groceries, phone
  • Care needs for my father: safety items and necessities related to dementia care
  • Rebuilding steps: permits, cleanup, materials, or other costs tied to getting back home (as possible)

I will post updates and, when possible, share receipts or proof of major expenses so donors can see where the help is going.

If you can help today, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If not, please consider sharing — it truly helps more than people realize.
