Hi friends!

If you may or may not know, our good friend George has been experiencing increased physical difficulties over the past several years. After the all too common journey of research and medical appointments, George was diagnosed with Corticobasal degeneration (CBD). If you have not heard of CBD, that is because it is a very rare neurodegenerative disease with Parkinsons-like symptoms; see this link for more technical information. As I have spent time with George on a weekly basis this has looked like: being unable to do anything with his left hand or arm, needing help for the simple things he loves like having a drink and eating good food with friends, and not being able to walk or travel without assistance. 

As time has gone on, not only have the worsening symptoms affected George, they have also taken their toll on Aldean. What was once minimal assistance for her is now a full time job in itself. Aldean gets up with George and helps him get dressed, move around the house, eat, pass the time, and general bathroom assistance. So far they have kept up with the increased needs, and unfortunately this has come with sacrificing time for other priorities and leisure.

This campaign is the beginning of an effort to help change that. We want to formalize the efforts that have been put forth here and there by loving volunteers. We want to restore some semblance of balance into George and Aldean's life. Our plan is to use this page and other fundraisers to hire someone for two days a week as a companion and aide for George. This will fill in the gap of what their health insurance does not cover. This will also give Aldean a regular, set time to manage her life and work outside of George and to even just run to grocery store with peace of mind.

If you know George and Aldean, then you know their mission to love and support people in all stages and aspects of life. From the health coaching, to one on one counseling, and from their many years supporting the local community through church leadership, they are dedicated selfless lovers of people.
