Help Rex Recover from a Urinary Blockage

Rex is a 4-year-old cat who has been part of our family for all 4 years of his life. He holds an especially special place in our hearts — he came into our lives after we lost our previous cat, and he’s been a huge source of comfort and joy ever since.

Recently, Rex started straining in the litter box and we quickly realized something was seriously wrong. He was rushed to the emergency vet and diagnosed with a urinary blockage — a life-threatening condition where cats are unable to urinate at all. Left untreated, this can lead to kidney failure and death within just a day or two, so we’re incredibly grateful we caught it in time.

Rex is now hospitalized for treatment and will need to stay for about 4 days to be stabilized and recover. Once he’s home, he’ll need to be on a special urinary diet for the rest of his life to help prevent this from happening again.

To make things more complicated, this condition can be genetic, and Rex has a brother, Astro, who lives with us too. That means we’re not just covering Rex’s treatment now — we’re also trying to prepare for the possibility that Astro could face the same emergency down the road.
