Rocket Recovery
Our sweet little dog Rocket was attacked by a much larger dog while we were visiting family for Thanksgiving. The attack was quick and we were able to pull the larger dog away from Rocket before he was killed. We could see that he was severely injured and we rushed him to the animal hospital. He was losing a great deal of blood and going in and out of consciousness. We were afraid that he would die on the way, or that his injuries would be so severe that he would have to be euthanized.
After we arrived, the doctor was able to stabilize him. He had to be sedated for xrays which showed that his jaws were fractured in multiple places. The doctor recommends a consult with a surgeon to repair his jaw which may cost $8-10K. She put in a feeding tube, put a fentanyl patch on for pain, stabilized the bone, taped his jaw, and then put a muzzle on him. He was also prescribed gabapentin and meloxicam for the pain. The cost of this treatment was $2300.
This week he was seen by a vet for a follow-up. They changed the dressing on his feeding tube, removed the patch, and prescribed methodone for pain. The vet also recommended a surgeon.
He used to be small, fun ball of energy and full of life. He is now in constant pain and must be regularly given drugs in an effort to keep it under control. We ask that you please help us with these costs so that he can have the surgery and give him back his life.
If we raise more than needed to help pay his costs, we will donate the remaining funds to help rescued pets.
